And Now…

Welcome to the world of Reel PROs 2 - for the professional actor who is a legal 18 or emancipated who plays between 18 and 26. It's a world filled with working actors, lots of activity, and some of the most experienced and knowledgeable guest instructors in the casting industry. Our reputation precedes us: Reel PROs is known for its sense of community, its professionalism, our commitment to our actors and the quality of the workshops we offer them, and our ability to draw some industry guests that will only offer cold-reading/audition skills educational workshops at Reel PROs. Just as important, Reel PROs is known for a casual atmosphere that promotes a camaraderie between our actors, guests and staff.

Every time an actor takes the Reel PROs stage, they practice and train their cold-reading and auditioning skills, and it starts with how they come across to the casting person: that is, how they own the space; how they control their physicality, nerves, energy and vocal levels for the given environment; their professionalism, confidence and pleasantness — everything they do in an audition that affects their success.

The cold-reading aspect of Reel PROs’ workshops - which includes clear and specific redirection of scenes and/or constructive feedback, specifying what worked well and why, or what could be improved upon - hones their script analysis skills (the breaking down of a script for a character’s objectives and intentions) by focusing their time and energy on making strong and specific choices quickly. Actors who’ve mastered this skill have a significant leg up when asked in an audition to read additional scenes without ever having seen them before, or even perform a completely new role. Most importantly, if an actor is able to make strong, clear choices within the Reel PROs 15 minute cold-reading rehearsal period, imagine how much more layered their performance will be after a full day or more with a script!

When casting guest instructors offer workshops at Reel PROs they expect to work with actors who already cold-read well and have good audition skills but who want to learn more from them. Our reputation for a membership with really fine actors is industry-known, and is because we take very seriously the task of constantly qualifying them. There is an innovative, continuous monitoring system in place to flag actors who need work, in order to ensure all RP members maintain a certain standard. The flags, which are never given to or seen by guests, can lead to suggestions on how to improve one's craft or, eventually, termination of membership, depending on what's appropriate. There is also an opportunity for RP members to be invited to join the Reel PROs Main Arena (24-on), the home of some of the top cold-reading actors in the industry, open only to RP2 and Players (27-on) members by invitation.

Reel PROs is a membership organization, with an annual fee of $60. (For info on the current 1/2 price membership special, please send an email to RP.Players@earthlink.net.) RP2 and Players members who are invited and choose to transfer into Main Arena pay no further fee for the balance of their membership year. All Reel PROs actors who choose to are featured in Cream of the Crop, our online member directory, as part of their membership. Also as a free member benefit, our actors can become part of ReelPROsTV on YouTube, with their in-house professionally filmed Reel PROs on-camera video clips.
