Welcome to the world of Reel PROs - for the professional actor who is a legal 18 and above. It's a world filled with working actors, lots of activity, and some of the most experienced and knowledgeable casting director guest instructors and agents in the industry. Our reputation precedes us: Reel PROs is known for its sense of community, its professionalism, our commitment to our actors and the quality of the casting director workshops we offer them.
Just as important, Reel PROs is known for a casual and fun atmosphere which promotes camaraderie between our actors, casting director guests and staff. And that is exactly what Hannah Sussman, the owner of Reel PROs, set out to create in 1994. And it is her vision that continues to define RP, as we, her staff, know beyond doubt, appreciate so much, and love about her. As do our many long-time casting director guests.
"Reel PROs is such a good group of actors. It's a pleasure to come here and always have fun." Carrie Audino, Casting Director, CSA, Co-Owner of Schiff/Audino Casting
"I have loved my time at Reel PROs. I feel like the actors really want to be there and are genuinely interested in what I can teach them about the business and audition process. And I am always entertained - which is an added bonus!" Kendra Castleberry, Casting Director
Casting Director Guests Determine Workshop Format!
Reel PROs workshops are designed around our casting director guests’ choices and desires for their workshop teaching experience. Clearly, guests know what works best for them and how to draw out the best in actors. And if our guests and actors are happy, we’re happy! Therefore our casting director workshops reflect the favorite format of our guests, and are normally structured in this manner:
* Casting workshops are almost always cold-reading. It is by far the number one choice of casting people. * Both paired and 1-on-1’s are offered, depending on what the casting director guest wants to experience from a training perspective. * Scenes are always performed in front of all other actors, a very strong preference by guests. * Scenes are supplied by casting director at the time of the workshop, and scene partners are assigned by them. * A 15-minute rehearsal period is part of the class time. * Casting directors give input, tips, feedback and redirect, depending on what’s seen as most helpful and needed. * Some guests give actor feedback forms. * Casting director workshops are small, usually less than 22 actors to a maximum of 24. * CSA requests their members not accept headshots or resumes at workshops. The decision is in each CSA members' hands, and does not influence the decisions of non-CSA members.
(Please see “Why Cold Readings?” for important insight and background into cold-readings vs. prepared one-on-one’s.)
"I do like the paired cold-reading format in workshops because I get to watch the actors and am quick to see their strengths and weaknesses - which means I can offer accurate feedback and training. I’ve never been disappointed at Reel PROs with the high caliber of talent, and I’ve noticed that the new members are solid, too." Peter Pappas, Casting Director
"I find Reel PROs to be very professional and have a strong talent pool. At RP I see actors make their choices and bring life to the material, and that's inspiring in this educational environment." Lisa Soltau, Casting Director
Turning Back the Price Calendar Five Years!
Since we're all actors at RP, we well know the time, effort and hard-earned money we invest in furthering our careers, and we at RP are determined to keep the burden lessened. That desire led us to turn RP into the most cost-effective, actor-friendly place in town. Most casting director workshops in town charge $40 to $55 per class. You save at least $7 to $22 on many workshops with RP, because:
Many of our workshops are only $33.00! And this is without the purchase of a discount package!
And we drop the price significantly - usually to $19 - for other casting director and agent workshops each month! Again, without forcing the purchase of a discount package, which we do not offer anyway, prefering to give our members their discounts one at a time, saving them a large up-front expense outlay.
This translates into huge savings for our actors, unheard of in today’s casting director workshop world, but common five years ago - and we're one of the few who have been around long enough to know.
You simply cannot find such bargains in town offered with the consistency of Reel PROs.
